Lenght: 2.5 hrs
Degree of difficulty: medium easy
Take HIKE 4, keeping to the end of the walk where, on flat ground by the river, there is a large wooden sign pointing the way to Santa Maria and Orient.Take the route to Sta Maria up tp lovely, pared zig-zagging path with espectacular views to the right of a deep gorge. You gain useful height here for later in the walk.
When you reach the top, after about 20 minutes, ignore any small side turnings and keep straight on until you reach a definitive fork marked by wooden arrows and a red painted sign, on a boulder, showing the sharp right turn down the gorge Sta Maria. DO NOT TAKE this turning but continue straight on i.e in the opposite direction to the arrow to Orient.
Soon you realize you are walking away from the gorge and round back of Es Castellot ( See the map ), which is seen a landmark from the hotel. The Path is flat at first and shaded by woods but sonn it starts to climb gently, passing a charcoal burness on your right. Keep on up in a northerly direction ignoring any side path which are, in any case, blocked by low rows of stones.
Before long you will see blue sky through the trees and feel the breeze and will know you are near the head of the pass. Instant before it there isa small roofless house onnthe left.
The view from the gap between the rocks of the village is wonderful ( from there you will see our Hotel). Incidently, the gap is artificially made. A path to the right, just before it, leads to Alaró ( Hike Cal Reis, see the map) but to return to Orient keep down through the gap on a wide track which will bring you out the road just east of the village, or for a short cut, take the track down until you notice tke oak wood on you left thinning and you are getting glimpses of sun and olive trees. Then strike off across counting and rejoin the beginning of hikes 1,2,3 and 4 on the hill just outside the hotel garden.
